Craig Gildner Big Band

The Swing Era of the 30’s and 40’s will forever be defined by the sound of the big bands. It was their heyday, and in that time period, a cannon of timeless standards were created. If you’re looking for a truly authentic big band sound for your event, The Craig Gildner Big Band can fit the bill.

In the fall of 2011, already leading several successful small bands, Craig had been requested by a client to form a 15 piece band for a New Year’s Eve event. This was no small task! But fortunately, having worked with a variety of fine local big bands knew a myriad of sidemen up to the challenge, and spending a small fortune on big band scores and music stands, fulfilled the request on time, and got several accolades.

Fast forward to 2013, when a fellow swing dancer/promoter wanted to hear Craig’s big band again. The Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo was booked in February, and on a chilly Saturday night over 200 dancers were excited by this new band. The buzz went around, and the CGBB became more than a one hit wonder.

Around that time, Craig started working with local ace arranger/reed man Scott Silbert, to transcribe arrangements that only existed on recordings…plus some original tunes.

Since then, Craig’s orchestra has played for DCLX (the local Lindy exchange), Austin Lindy Exchange, New Year’s Eve at Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, The Strathmore, along with many self promoted swing dances at Glen Echo and weddings.

In 2015, the band recorded their first full length album, Leave Us Leap, filled with many familiar swing favorites as well as lesser known ones.

The band now features the finest professional musicians from the DC area, with several members also being in service bands.
